Back in 2012 I began writing down some of my thoughts on websites, design, and how to make the best website ever. Over the years, I took parts I had written for presentation, research, and tips and tricks and turned it into a self-published book on Amazon.

Preface Excerpt

Let me start out by explaining a few things about this book and who it is meant for. This book is not meant for seasoned web designers nor large firms that specialize in marketing. They should already know the information in this book; that’s why they get to charge so much.

No, this book is meant for the business owner looking into developing an online presence. The stay at home graphic designer looking to venture into websites. And you. That’s right, you. The one reading each and every word, who shelled out the $12.99 to buy this book (or $1 if it didn’t do so well and is now in the bargain bin at the dollar store). You know who you are, and so do I, which is why I wrote this book, to help you.

If after reading this book, you decide to go ahead and pay a professional, I will give you a $12.99 credit for my services (insert smiley face here).

That brings me to my next point and the question you may be asking yourself; who am I? Or “who are you?” if you’re the one asking the question.

Good question, and I’m glad we are on the same page. My name is Cory Wright, and I am a UX/UI designer.

“Hello Cory!” said the crowd of people while at the same time asking yourself: “What in the world is a UX/UI Designer?”

That is an excellent question and one I will answer later. Sorry, I can’t give everything away on the first few pages.

I have worked in the field of design since the late 90’s working for newspapers, printers, ad agencies, television networks and the hardest job ever, working for myself.

Since beginning a career in this field I have learned a few things about design and, like everything else, how it changes over the years.

I first started writing this book about 10 years ago. At the time, I was selling some old design books on ebay and noticed how outdated they seemed (even ‘selling on ebay’ is starting to seem outdated). Even then, books that had only been published a few years previous seemed out of date. I started reading over this book recently and realized half the content in THIS book was even more out of date.

Technology moves at such a fast pace. What was standard practice ten, five, or even just two years ago in web design and marketing is no longer seen the same way. Way back in 2001, there was no Social Marketing. Facebook wasn’t even conceived and Google, the now standard search engine, was just getting its feet wet.

But we will get into all that a little later. Let’s start, where all the best things begin, at the beginning.
